Robotic Sanding

Automated Sanding Applications

Sanding

Remove Inconsistencies and Elevate Your Part's Finish

Robotic sanding is an application where PushCorp's equipment excels. Our precise force and constant speed end effectors account for part variability and abrasive wear. Therefore, manual processes can be automated easier than ever.

In non-automated processes, operators rely on visual inspections. Not only is this is a tedious process, but it leaves the finish completely up to the individual.

The skill level of these workers are extremely variable due to the high turnover in the industry. As a result, manually finished parts are inconsistent, being either over sanded or under sanded. In addition to an inferior finish, non-automated processes use a higher volume of abrasives. For example, if the operator applies too much force, the abrasive media glazes over. Conversely, the abrasive will not re-fracture if too little force is applied. With an automated system, not only is the part quality significantly better, but abrasive life can increase by 200-300%.

Video of Robotic Sanding Automation

As an illustration, this video shows how effortless robotic sanding can be. In fact, a robot paired with a PushCorp force compliance device and servo spindle is just what you need to automate your material-removal application.

This video showcases an AFD72-2 and an STC1503-BT30. Together, this equipment is able to quickly and efficiently remove the top level of paint.

There are two key elements to this process. First, the AFD72 applies consistent force throughout the entire process. Next, the STC1503-BT30 rotates the abrasive at a constant speed. Together, they work seamlessly to create beautifully finished parts, time and time again.

Additionally, high quality abrasives should be used to achieve the most consistent finish. Low caliber sand paper may operate well at the beginning, but will often degrade quickly. Therefore, we recommend the following companies:
